CRACROFT. (Commander, 1846.) Peter Cracroft, born 15 March, 1816, is second son of Robt. Cracroft, Esq., of Hackthorn, co. Lincoln, Lieutenant-Colonel of the North Lincolnshire Militia, and a Deputy-Lieutenant; and nephew of the present Sir Wm. Amcotts Ingilby, Bart., as also of the late Capt. Sir Robt. Barrie, R.N.This officer entered the Navy 4 June, 1830; passed his examination 20 March, 1835; and at the date of his first promotion, which took place 26 Aug. 1841, was serving as Mate on board the Southampton 50 flag-ship at the Cape of Good Hope of Sir Edw. Durnford King. He became, 6 Aug. 1842, Flag-Lieutenant, in the Victory 100, to Rear-Admiral Hyde Parker, Admiral-Superintendent at Portsmouth; and, on 12 Oct. 1846, was advanced to the rank of Commander.
