CIRCULAR, No. 423.
Admiralty, 15th May, 1860.
WINE AND MEDICAL COMFORTS FOR THE SICK.
My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are pleased to direct, that whenever it may be necessary on Foreign Stations to purchase Wine and Medical Comforts for the use of the Sick on board Her Majesty's Ships, the Principal Medical Officer is to act In conjunction with the Victualling Agent in obtaining the requisite supplies. With respect to the Wine required for this purpose, my Lords have no objection to the course now frequently adopted by the Surgeons of Her Majesty’s Ships of obtaining it from the Officers Mess on board
their respective Ships, and paying for it out of the Sick Mess Fund, when it can be done without inconvenience.
By Command of their Lordships.
To all Commanders-in-Chief, &c.
