| 16 September 1889 | Admiral George Otway Popplewell, whose death occurred on Thursday last at Ramsgate, aged 74, was the eldest son of the late Captain Popplewell, R.N. He had seen some service during the Eastern campaign, having commanded the Inflexible at the attack on Port Constantine, Sebastopol, in 1854. For his services he received the Crimean and Turkish medals and the fifth class of the Medjidieh. |
