11 April 1868 | Rear-Admiral Thomas Harvey died on Wednesday last in his 58th year. He was son of the late Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Harvey, K.C.B., and entered the navy in 1822. After studying at the Royal Naval College he joined as midshipman the Dryad, under Capt. the Hon. Robert Rodney. He served under Admiral Sir Charles Napier during the Russian war, and subsequently served in the Pacific where he was Commodore, having been appointed in 1863. He was in receipt of a good service pension for his services afloat till he obtained his flag rank. He obtained his post rank January 31, 1848, and was made a Rear-Admiral on the active list December 2, 1865. |
